Early Intervention Orthodontics Melbourne

IS NO BRACE FOR YOU?

It is our experience that early intervention at the correct age and time makes all the difference. The American and Australian Society of Orthodontists recommend an assessment by the age of 7.

The removable appliances can be used at any age in mixed or permanent dentition. The optimal age is during the eruptive and growth changes in the late mixed dentition (8-12 years). The longer the permanent dentition is in place, the less effective the removable appliances will be. However, factors such as compliance (see below), the degree of myofunctional correction and malocclusion all have influence.

The application of Removable appliances combined with Myofunctional therapy , will improve dental alignment and treat myofunctional habits. Results will vary and are age-specific. Therefore individual assessment is necessary, just as in every orthodontic treatment.

Compliance and Motivation

Due to the nature of removable appliances, patient compliance is essential. Therefore it is important for the patient and parent to be motivated as the system does require consistent daily use by the well-organised child. If motivation is a problem, it may be better to consider conventional fixed brackets instead of removable orthodontic appliances.
